Situated on a plot covering an area of 4,000 square metres in Ajmer, Rajasthan, the Dayanand Bal Sadan orphanage is home to 136 orphans. It is supported by the contributions of generous donors, which unfortunately, are few and far between.

The orphans live in neglected conditions and the authorities, even though well meaning, can’t do any better for want of funds. On our first visit, we noticed that several orphans (19 of them) were wearing torn uniforms and needed an upgrade. Our grandmother graciously bought them new ones. But a lot more needs to be done and this requires an exercise in creating awareness of their existence and needs.
