It is estimated that there are 153 million orphans around the world and every day more than 5,760 children become orphans, to add to this number. A staggering 20 million of these orphans exist in India.

While the current Indian government has implemented a series of commendable measures under which it meets the education needs of orphaned students up to post-graduate level and thereafter provides opportunities for higher learning, this is clearly not adequate enough given the sheer numbers.
